Varal Curry

Traditional Varal curry.

Ingredients

  • Varal fish - 1/2 kg
  • Shallots(Kunjulli) - 10 nos
  • Fenugreek seeds(Uluva) - 1 1/2 tsp
  • Chilly powder - 1 tbsp
  • Coriander powder - 2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
  • Salt - As reqd
  • Curry leaves - Few
  • Ginger-garlic paste - 2 tsp
  • Tamarind - 1 lemon size
Instructions

  • Clean fish and cut into pieces.
  • Heat oil, add fenugreek seeds, onion and fry till color changes.
  • Add ginger-garlic paste, chilly powder and coriander powder. 
  • Fry till it gets brown color.
  • Add turmeric powder and tamarind water.
  • Add the curry leaves and fish pieces. Cover and cook till fish is done.
  • Pour coconut oil on top and serve hot.
